Factors that can affect your
data centre are not necessarily as obvious as a power outage or
a lightning strike. They can be:
• System lockup
• Lost data
• Screen flicker
• Changes in operational speed of IT equipment
• Data corruption
These are common indicators of "dirty power" feeding IT
equipment. It is a common belief that the power supply is
reliable, clean and stable... NO! Whether it is an office,
communications room or data centre; voltage spikes, surges,
brown outs and other problems are a potential hazard to your IT
systems. Computer systems have, however evolved and changed in
an effort to achieve greater efficiency and smaller size, with
increased capability, manageability and availability. The move
from linear to switch mode power supplies in computers has
changed the power requirements and heightened sensitivity to
power fluctuations.
The power survey will:
• Identify any site electrical problems present.
• Explore operating symptoms that are caused by electrical
problems.
• Assess the capabilities of the power infrastructure, cables,
sockets and building transformers.
• Identify the capability of UPS devices, building transformers
and earthing.
Following the survey an extensive report highlights the key
finding and provides recommendations if required.
